The Theological Premise: Why M2L Must Govern M4L
Across Scripture, God repeatedly corrects His people at the same point — not because they stop believing in Him, but because they begin attempting God's work without God as the source. The issue is not whether we do ministry, but what we draw from as the source of that ministry.
Ministry to the Lord (M2L) is the relational posture directed toward God Himself — worship, attentiveness, listening, loving God, trusting Him, and spending unhurried time in His presence.
Ministry for the Lord (M4L)is the activity of obedience on God's behalf — service, mission, leadership, teaching, and disciple-making. Commanded, necessary, good — but never meant to be self-powered.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.
Ministry to the Lord fulfills the first and greatest commandment; it is supreme. Ministry for the Lord expresses the second; it is necessary yet derivative. When M4L governs, God is treated as a resource. When M2L governs, God remains Lord.
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.
…the eyes of your heart may be enlightened… and his incomparably great power for us who believe…
Presence → Posture → Revelation → Obedience → Fruit
God never advances His purposes through human sufficiency, but through human dependence on divine life.
How to Begin: Entering Ministry TO the Lord
M2L is not a technique. It is not a formula. It is relationship. God does not merely want work from us. He wants a relationship with us.
Positional: at salvation, every believer is made holy by Christ's finished work. Practical: daily surrender of time, habits, and heart. Without consecration, M2L becomes technique. With it, M2L becomes the natural response of a life that belongs entirely to God.
“Lord Jesus, thank You for dying and rising so I could be close to You. I come to the Father through You, desiring relationship, not performance.”
Identity → Intimacy → Impact — each turn goes deeper.
What Happens: Fruit and Collapse
Obedience to the first and greatest commandment — Ministry TO the Lord — must be supreme over all Ministry FOR the Lord.
Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.
Good beginnings matter — but finishing requires staying in relationship. The drift is quiet, slow, and often unnoticed. But returning is always possible when we humble ourselves.
